Flying After Concussion and Symptom Recovery in College Athletes and Military Cadets:Sharma, T.L., Kerrigan, J.M., McArthur, D.L., Bickart, K., Broglio, S.P., McAllister, T.W., McCrea, M., Giza, C.C.

This study found that athletes flying within 72 hours of concussion did not show greater symptoms, prolonged symptom recovery, or delayed return to activity or school and should help guide future recommendations on flight travel after concussion in athletes. There were some limitations to the study that need to be investigated in future research to get a fuller picture of the issues.
LIMITATIONS
• There were a limited number of athletes who flew or had SACT3 evaluation within hours of their concussion. Therefore, this study could not adequately determine the acute effects of flying on symptoms.
• The median number of hours travelled by plane was only 2, therefore, this study could not ascertain whether longer flights, which expose people to reduced oxygen pressure for longer periods of time, might influence course of recovery from concussion.
